⋅ TIPS ⋅
1. Getting Here
First things first: Tinharé is the name of our island 🏝. Morro de São Paulo = one of the villages. Gamboa (where the house is located) = another village, quieter, with magical sunsets 🌅.
👉 To get from Salvador → Morro de São Paulo, then to us, you’ve got following options:
- Plane ✈ → then 4x4 straight to us.
- Catamaran ⛴ → then regular boat to Gamboa pier (15-min walk).
- Catamaran ⛴ → then private speedboat to nearest beach (5-min walk, we help organize).
- Semi-terrestrial (Boat + Bus + Boat) 🚌 → then same options as above.
- Car 🚗 (park at Atracadouro Bom Jardim R$30/day) → then speedboat to nearest beach (5-min walk, we help organize).

2. Our Insider Guide
🌈 Recommendations: Having visited more than 60 countries, we’ve learned to recognize the real gems—the places with soul, character, and a story to tell. The Tinharé island is full of them, and we’ve created a carefully curated list of restaurants and experiences that reflect the island’s authentic spirit beyond the tourist trail. We’ve mapped out walks and boat rides aligned with tides and moon phases (yes, we take nature that seriously), including a 30-minute barefoot beach hike to Morro that feels lifted from a storybook. For the curious and the intrepid, we can connect you to everything from remote beaches and seafood shacks to Hawaiian canoe trips and spiritual massages—right to your doorstep. ✨
3. Personal Tips
Life here flows with the tides and the moon 😉
👉 Beaches, sandbanks & natural pools are especially stunning at low tide. Some walks are only possible then—so plan your adventures with the tides in mind!
Check tide times here:

You can move around on foot, boat, tractor, or 4x4—we’ll help you out! 🚜🚤🚶
At low tide you can walk barefoot to Morro de São Paulo along the beach in about 30 minutes. It feels like stepping into a storybook. 📖✨
🏋️ Pro tip: backpacks are easier than rolling suitcases (cobblestones + sand + stairs).
🐢 Timing is Everything: Bahia runs on its own clock. Expect things to take a little longer, to start a little later, and to flow with more rhythm than precision. It’s part of the charm—lean into it.
💬 Ask Us Anything: If there's something you're longing to explore—be it food, art, music, sports, or just deeper insight into Bahian life—just ask. We’re travelers at heart, and nothing makes us happier than helping others see a place through the lens of true experience.
4. Tours
🚣♂ Canadian Canoe Ride
With Toni, to the sandbank in front of the house. Best at sunset during low tide.
🚶♀ Low-Tide Walk
From our beach → Clay Wall → Morro de São Paulo (or reverse). Gorgeous scenery + swims along the way.
🚜 Tractor or 4x4 Ride → 4th Beach
Endless sand at low tide.
If morning low tide → enjoy the 4th beach → lunch → walk back via 3rd & 2nd beaches → boat back home.
If afternoon low tide → enjoy the 4th beach → dinner at Taberna Mágica (moonlit magic + tricks!) → 4x4 back home.
🛥 Boat Tour
Not a fan of the “same-old” group tours? We’ve got two alternatives:
Private Yacht → low tide morning stop at Moreré pools → lunch at Bainema Beach → walk to Moreré village → floating oyster farm or Galeão village.
Local Boatman (half price) → mangroves & river route → Boipeba village → Tassimirim/Cueira lobster stop → oyster farm or Galeão village.
4. Restaurants
🍴 Gamboa: lunch options by the beach
By the beach 🏖
- Francisco — A 70-year-old native legend who dives at 4 AM every day to bring in the catch of the day 🐟. Service is slow, coconuts are rare—but sunsets here are unbeatable 🌅. Bonus: my SUP board (brought all the way from Hawai‘i 🏄♂) is safely kept at his barraca. If you promise to take good care of it, you’re welcome to borrow it. Just beware of the currents!
- Fonte do Céu (Quinho) — Quicker bites & guaranteed coconuts.
- Miriam — Next to the Clay Wall. Best moqueca + Claudio’s Instagram-worthy drinks.
🍴 Gamboa: dining options
Simple, sincere, unforgettable—like Morro 30 years ago. People remember your name here 😉
- Street food — around the square: crepes, pastel, caldinho, acarajé, açaí.
- Vegan Burger — Praia Linda (great takeaway, pair with snacks from the square).
- Pimenta de Cheiro — comfort food: moqueca, arrumadinho, escondidinho 🤗.
- Universidade das Pizzas — casual, plastic chairs, car-free street dining 🍕.
- Patagonia — super fine dining on the beach near home!
Morro de São Paulo
Our personal highlights
- Restaurante Canoa — Rustic yet refined, 3rd beach (check if open).
- Papoula — Cozy, artisanal, living-room vibes.
- Cantina Barolo — Cute, real Italian, good wine & the best gnocchis on earth.
- Café das Artes — Classic dishes + people-watching in the main square.
- Basilico — Daytime restaurant at the beginning of 4th beach.
- Taberna Mágica — Barefoot dinner on the far end of 4th beach 🌙✨ Magic tricks included! Best with moonlight + private 4x4 return back home.
